About Verdeindex

Verdeindex is an index of the energy transition: what's being built, who's paying for it, and which companies are worth watching. The site is split into three parts:

The Newsletter

Where the deepest writing happens. Each edition takes a single theme, whether that's grid infrastructure, subsea capacity, or a company worth understanding in depth.

The Deal Round-up

Transactions worth understanding: who's involved, how each deal is structured, and what it signals about where capital is actually flowing.

The Startup Index

Companies working on the harder problems. Some have a full profile already written; others are just worth keeping an eye on.

Together, they're meant to do one thing: make the money and mechanics behind the energy transition as clear as the headlines about it.

About me

Why I write this

Oscar Petterson Fuentes

I'm Oscar, a final-year student at the University of Edinburgh studying Sustainable Development with Politics and International Relations.

I started writing Verdeindex in September 2024, at the start of my second year. Since then, I've written 24 editions, all built around sustainability as a central theme. Recently, the focus has shifted more specifically to energy.

Through my degree and wider reading, I've come to understand that infrastructure is critical to reaching a sustainable future. If we get the energy transition right, done well and done fairly, the follow-on benefits for biodiversity, society, and health are significant. It's a fundamental lever, and one I want to understand, document, and share.

I hope you enjoy each section, and that you use this as a resource to understand and follow the energy transition.
